Feeling Pressure to Save the Day

Written by Anita Carman

Dear Faithful One,

Have you ever felt the pressure to save a family, a ministry, a project, or a business? Did you know that we were never created to carry the pressure of being Savior?

When I was growing up, my mother put the hope of the family’s future in me. I felt the pressure to succeed in my studies and to one day save her from the political turbulence in my country. As much as I wanted to rid myself of the stress, my parents had few options except for the success of their children. My mother made me the central character in my family’s story. I know she did not intentionally mean to hurt me but…Read More »

Has Love Grown Cold?

Written by Anita Carman

Dear Faithful One,

God’s Word tells us in 1 Cor 13:8, “Love never fails” NIV. Since God tells us that love is a guaranteed solution, is it the solution we are using to relate to one another? Instead of love, have you leaned on other solutions such as logic or argument? Is today the day to return to love as our fool proof solution?

Someone who went through a divorce said this to me, “It was more important for me to be right than it was for me to love.” On hindsight, this person (who was a pastor) regretted the way he had lectured his wife with truth, instead of loving her with God’s truth. Because she did…Read More »

Are Your Activities on God’s Urgent To-Do List?

Written by Anita Carman

Dear Faithful One

When the phone rings, do you rush to pick it up even when you are in the middle of something important?   When someone sends you an email, do you feel an urgency to respond right away? As I reflected over how I wanted the year 2012 to be different, one area God pointed out to me was what I classified as urgent. Are my activities on God’s urgent to-do list?

Col 1:16 tells us, “For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities…” NIV. Since all things were made through Him, are there things that are made that are not…Read More »

God’s Answer to Bad News

Written by Anita Carman

Dear Faithful One,

When times are good, do you long to freeze time so the good times can continue forever? When times are bad, do you long to fast forward the tape into a new season?  How do we live where we stop fearing the good times will end? How do we live where we no longer dread the bad times?

This week’s teaching contains a message I taught on KHCB FM 105.7 radio to remind listeners to anchor their lives to God Himself and not to their circumstances.

The stock market goes up and the stock market goes down. The company is hiring and the company is laying off. If I want peace I cannot anchor myself to…Read More »

Admitting My Broken Heart

Written by Anita Carman

Dear Faithful One,

In our world of instant fixes, do you sometimes feel rushed to get over your pain? Did you know that God never rushes us in our suffering? Instead He uses suffering to get even closer to us.

This week’s teaching contains a message I taught on KHCB FM 105.7 radio to remind listeners that God does not miss the opportunity to get close to us when our hearts are broken.

The day I buried my mother, I wrote in my diary, “I heard someone say to my Dad, ‘Your daughter is 17. That’s good. She’s grown now.’ I don’t feel grown, God. Am I supposed to act grown?  What does acting grown mean? I think it…Read More »
