Get the Facts Before Trusting Someone

Written by Anita Carman

Dear Faithful One,

Have you ever been unsure about a person’s character or motive? It’s hard to trust someone unless you are sure of who they are. Let’s learn from God’s Word how we can get sure.

In the Jewish culture, a fact is established by the testimony of two witnesses. In the gospel of John, the Apostle John is our first witness. He then introduces John the Baptist in the narrative as a second witness. John 1:7 tells us that John the Baptist “came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.” NIV. If you are unsure of someone, why not ask God for a witness to the facts…Read More »

The Gift of Goodbye

Written by Anita Carman

Dear Faithful One,
Have you ever agonized over saying goodbye? Did you know that saying goodbye is one of God’s blessings? Are you ready to say goodbye so you can move on with God’s plans for the future?
In 1 Samuel 16:1, God said to Samuel the prophet, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.” NIV.

Are you mourning for someone who has sinned against God? Do you still long for how things used to be? Before wasting one more day, settle…Read More »

Are You Unsure of Your Life?

Written by Anita Carman

Dear Faithful One,

If you find yourself unsure of life, could it be because you don’t have the real facts about your situation? The more we allow untruth to be mixed in with truth, the more confused we become. Truth is what puts rock beneath our feet. Do you operate with true facts about yourself? Do you operate with true facts about those you relate to?

In John 1:9 Jesus was described as “The true light that gives light to every man…” NIV.  Jesus’ confidence was in the fact that He operated as the “true” light. There was no duplicity in Him. As a result, His life was consistent and steadfast in the midst of pressure and in…Read More »

Have You Been Lied To?

Written by Anita Carman

Dear Faithful One,

Have you ever been lied to by someone you trusted? In the many years I have served in women’s ministry, I have felt the pain with so many who have misplaced their trust. The stories are endless: A spouse who hid a mistress, a child who hid an addiction, a friend with secrets of a different life style. Oh the shock to the one who believed so totally and so blindly!

In John 1:9, John the Baptist identified Jesus as “The true light that gives light to every man…” NIV.   The fact that God’s Word referred to Jesus as the “true” light indicates God was contrasting Jesus to others who had misrepresented themselves as the…Read More »

Are You Drowning in Activities?

Written by Anita Carman

Dear Faithful One,

Who defines for you what is urgent in your life? What are you busy doing?

Matthew 24:38-39 tells us: “For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.” In these verses, God warned us that life’s details have a way of consuming us to the point that we lose sight of what is eternally significant. In the midst of all your activity, have you forgotten that we are…Read More »
