When a parent or any adult is passing out candy, I’ve watched children scramble to be first to receive the blessing. They don’t want to miss out on a blessing and are unapologetic in how they push and grab what they see as theirs. They definitely don’t want a sibling to get more than their share. As we grow from immaturity to be grown disciples for Jesus, do we carry the behavior from our childhood? Mark 9:35 reminds us, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” It takes more strength to be lesser than to be more.
